Cognitive science informed strategies and evidence around them, AI tools for educators and assessment informed instruction form the core of this newsletter edition.
3 To Pique
- Google is offering a Generative AI for Educators course (in partnership with MIT Raise). It might just be what you need to start incorporating tools into your workflow.
- If we know how students process and retain information, we can adapt our approach to teaching accordingly and in turn, increase effectiveness. To this end, EEF had put together a review of evidence and practice — basically discussing why and how as well as if cognitive science informed strategies work at all or not.
- Assessment informed instruction has been part of dialogue for a while. The Central Square Foundation came up with a doc elaborating on it, nearly 2 years ago. As we build our Bridge programme, this is something that is going to come up very often. It is worth getting familiar with.
2 To Play With
- Some of us going through the AI for Leaders training (with UnConstrained) were introduced to Brisk and its Chrome plugin which makes giving feedback on written work easy. You should check it out and incorporate it into your assignment review process.
- A tool called the NAEM Tracker can be used to help kids self-assess where they are in their learning. Not only do students take more ownership of their learning, but teachers can more efficiently plan their next lesson, knowing who’s got it down and who needs more support.
