Newsletter: 2024M4W3
From wondering whether students care to asking oneself — Do I care? This newsletter also has some rich animations and ideas and a very engaging podcast.
3 To Pique
- This is something I grapple with. On one end I strongly believe that “students aren’t the problem” but on the other hand I often catch myself asking — “Why are they like this?”. Let’s take the wrappers and waste that they strew around the campus. With all this internal debate raging in my head, I enjoyed this article about this wide-spread sentiment that “students don’t care”.
- An informative podcast from Ezra Klein featuring Ethan Mollick (do follow him wherever you can) on a very pertinent question that many have but are embarrassed to ask — Sure, AI can be and do all of this. But how am I to actually use AI in my job? Maybe our students ask similar questions about the subjects or topics we ask them to learn?
- Here is a good resource from the Council on Foreign Relations to introduce students to Global Era Issues. This course might be good to introduce students to various points of view on contemporary international issues and look at the global order by examining historical, cultural, economic, and political aspects of globalisation through a critical lens.
2 To Play With
- EduTopia has put together some nice research animations for educators. Enjoyed the ones I watched and am looking forward to watching the rest. Maybe in there somewhere is your “Aha!”.
- How do we build students’ reading stamina? This is not a language class’ issue. Teachers share ideas on how to build this capability in our students. Something to try with the summer break around the corner.
